Before you book

Frequently asked questions

The practical stuff — travel, timings, gear, the car, and what it all costs. Anything not covered here, just ask.

How far will you travel?
Anywhere in New Zealand, and regularly across to Australia and beyond. Gary is based at Red Beach on Auckland's Hibiscus Coast, and Austin Powers has worked Wellington, Dubai, Hong Kong, Twickenham and Las Vegas. Travel and accommodation are quoted up front for events outside Auckland.
How long is a typical show?
The Austin Powers set runs about 30–45 minutes of song, dance and comedy, or Gary can simply appear as a celebrity guest for photos and mingling. A full variety night runs up to three hours, and MC or DJ work covers your whole event from welcome to last song.
Can you MC and DJ the same event?
Yes — this is the most popular booking. Gary MCs the formalities, drops into character for a feature spot, then takes over the decks as Retro DJ for the dance floor. One performer, one fee, no gaps in the night.
Do you bring your own sound and lighting?
Yes. A full professional PA and lighting rig comes as standard for DJ and show bookings. If your venue already has production, we'll work with their crew instead and adjust the quote.
Can we hire the Austin Powers car?
The famous Shaguar-style Beetle can be booked alongside the show for grand entrances, photo opportunities and street promotions, subject to location and availability.
What does it cost?
Every event is different — the price depends on the act, length of the show, date and travel. Send through your date, venue and rough guest numbers and you'll get a straight, all-inclusive quote back quickly.
How far in advance should we book?
December and awards season fill up months ahead, so earlier is better. That said, Gary has been known to rearrange the diary for the right event — always worth asking about a short-notice date.
Is the show suitable for a family or corporate audience?
Absolutely. The material is tailored to your crowd — cheeky and Vegas-flavoured for an adult function, or kept completely clean for family, community and corporate audiences. Just tell us the room and Gary pitches it accordingly.
What do you need from the venue?
A performance space, power, and a private area to change. For larger rooms we'll discuss stage size, sound requirements and load-in access ahead of time so the night runs seamlessly.
Are you insured and professionally accredited?
Yes. Stage 51 Ltd is a registered New Zealand company, and Gary is a Scroll of Honour member of the Variety Artists Club of NZ and Director of the NZ Walk of Fame.
